Renault To Switch Drivers

Renault have confirmed that test driver Bruno Senna will participate in the Friday practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Rumours have started to circulate that Nick Heidfeld may not maintain his race seat for much longer, following a string of poor results, including a number of uncharacteristic 'DNFs' for the man who holds the record for the most consecutive race finishes.

However, it is not Senna who is expected to replace the German - who himself is standing in for the injured Robert Kubica - instead, it is Renault's other reserve driver, Romain Grosjean, due to get the call up.

Current GP2 Championship leader Grosjean is not entirely new to the Formula 1 scene, having replaced Nelson Piquet Jr for the second half of the 2008 season.

If this change is made, it will be interesting to see how the Swiss-French driver does given a second opportunity.

  1. Not long after we posted this story, Autosport have an article with quotes from Renault boss Eric Boullier saying that Grosjean is ready for another F1 chance, so this may happen sooner rather than later:
